Just got the 2 volume set on 1911 type pistols. I suppose there may be things about the 1911 that aren't covered in these books, but it could take a while to discover what might be missing. Really impressive.
I had one for S&W revolvers (K frame IIRC) and it was a great reference when tinkering on my 617. He had quite a few hints and tricks in the book so you would not screw up the action or the trigger with overzealous polishing. My trigger was silky smooth and nice and crisp when I finished. I would recommend them even if it was to help disassemble the gun.
"The US .30 Caliber Gas Operated Service Rifles: A Shop Manual Vol I & II" by Jerry Kuhnhausen - Best reference you could possibly have for the M1 Garand & M14.
