Apparently the first version of the KPVT was introduced in 1949.
That could mean that the belt isn't grandfathered as being for a'45 and earlier gun.
Does a 10 round segment of belt therefore qualify as a prohibited device?

It's not a prohibited device the gun is prohibited not the belt anyone can own machine gun belts

No.
Belts are mentioned in the section dealing with magazines. Belts made for '45 and earlier designed guns are exempt from capacity restrictions. Ones made for post'45 designed guns are not.
Please check the actual law and regulations.

Go to the Criminal Code Regulations, Part 4, 3(1)(iii) where the prohibition is listed. Exemption for belts for pre '45 designed guns is in (f).
The 10 round KVPT belt section is for a post '45 automatic firearm, and is therefore not grandfathered.
That would make it a prohibited device.
I believe that the DSHK is earlier, and so would be exempt.
