So after a reading through a thread on cheek rest idea's I decided to expand on my older lace up kydex cheek rest. There were suggestions on using the Blackhawk system, but I did not feel like sewing one together. So I took the mounting system from that rig and adapted it to kydex with a some input from a member here this is how it came together. Height is adjustable with layers of dense foam, and I kept it from sliding with the compression of the straps and a some non slip material. Can't wait to test it out, let me know what you think.....

Thanks for all your input, here is the second coming of my cheek rest. Velcro securing straps, rear butt strap.

If KYDEX was sold in sheets, how would a fellow get some and what technique would be needed to bend it into simple angles?

Looks good but I am wondering if the ends of the straps tickle your neck? I t would me a bit of a distraction when trying to line up a shot if they did.
I am also wondering the same as maple leaf eh

Thanks for the feed back. Straps were left extra long for the intended users rifle, I'm not sure how much they will need (this is the first one I made).

As for kydex, you need a few things, something to cut and shape it, something to heat it, and a mould (whatever shape you want it to be), and press.

For straight cuts, sharp knife, dremel for shapping.
For heat, heat gun, toaster oven etc.... even used a small torch for small stuff.
Mould it around what you want and let it cool.
For other tasks i.e. holsters, you will need a foam press. Sleeping pads between plywood and clamps to secure.

Hope that's a start if there is anything else I can try to help you out.

I may have some kydex if you need,

John

This has got me very interested.....I have been looking forever for a holster for the old webley air pistol I carry for grouse when big game hunting....would it be possible for me to make a fitted holster for this pistol? Any help on technique/material sourcing would sure be appreciated.

Ryan

Wrong way, in short yes. I've made a few holsters for friends, and the only tedious part is adjusting the fit. With knife sheath's it's usually a flat plane where as pistols have all sorts of grooves and low spots to create tension. One thing I have found is that Chicago screws allow you open it up and clean it, and if you place a rubber washer in between you can also adjust tension. I'll try and post some pics later, it might help give you a better idea because I suck at explaining.

That's pretty cool, a legal pistol for you to tote around in the bush.

hope that helps.

Heres a link for Kydex:

IMHO, lose the buckles you currently have and make up some velcro straps like the Eagle has. This will allow you to have the straps tighter , easier to adjust, and they won't loosen off.

Also look at putting a rear strap ala' Eagle in order to keep the rest from sliding forward.

SKBY.

Wrong way, thickness' are .060 (sheaths), .090 (heavy hseath), .125 (holsters) and I usually get the standard Kydex cuz there is a few variations out there.

SKBY, Sounds like a plan.....will post versions of Ver. 2.0

Again thank you for the input.
