L42A1 7.62mm NATO RG

I bought some of this ammo at a gun show today; from my research on the interwebs it's made in England and is sniper/competition ammo?

Anyone shot this stuff off before? How does it perform? Is the primer crimped in place?

What exactly is marked on the box and on the base of the brass...

Radway Green is an arsenal like any other. Some is good, some is just machine gun fodder. Is it is green plastic boxes of 50?

RG like the stuff you have was issued by the NRA UK for competiton. The latest stuff issued for competition is RUAG with 155 SMK's that is Boxer primed.

I've had some experience with that stuff, back about 8 yrs ago. Brit sniper stuff that didn't seem to be as good as the Norma match stuff. It is 155gr full metal jacket, not a match hollow point type of bullet The primers are the two hole kind. I seem to recall that it wasn't moving veer fast when we cronod it.
It is a step above the standard issue issue 7.61 ball for sure.

L42 is just a batch number, it has nothing to do with the sniper rifle of the same designation. Seems this is a poular misconception. Its just regular Brit 7.62 ball ammo. Will work fine but nothing special

While the L42 ball ammo is not directly linked to the rifle of the same designation, it is not the standard issue ball ammo.
Only the L42 is a 155grn target/sniper load, and the side of the can has "SNIPER" painted on it, if I remember correctly. The L45 and L46 are normal ball rounds with standard 144 grn bullets.

The L42 ammo is supplied to the military as match and sniper ammunition and was also supplied to the National Rifle Association for civilian use.

It's not a "batch" number, it's an "adopted pattern" number.

It's different in composition than L41 & L43 pattern ammo. Could be bullet, powder, primer or case design...or any combination thereof.
