I would be interested in seeing a converted No. 4 that resembles an L42A1. Does anyone have any pics of such a rifle? I am interested in setting up a configuration like this. Thank you.

You mean you want to see pics of a No.4(T) that's been sporterized (forestock cut back) to look like an L42A1, or pics of a real L42A1?

Regards,
Doug

Yes, a "sporterized" attempt. Although I don't think it would really be classified as sporterized per se.

Well, Santa Clause brought ~Angel~ an L42A1 for her Enfield collection this Christmas. When I look at it, what I see is a BSA M47C (BSA Shirley Plant) standard No.4(T) .303 sniper rifle that was sporterized (FTR'd) by having it's stock cut back just like a bubba'd hunting rifle, the barrel changed to .308 and the standard No.4(T) No.32 MkIII scope modified for meters, afterwards calling it a L1A1 scope. ....... :D

Regards.

Yup.... :)

Got to go to the range today and burn up some ammo, before the Liberals decide to ban it.......... ;)

Give me a chance to take some pics this evening and I'll post them for tomorrow at the latest......

American Rifleman had a great story (article) on the rifle about 5 or 6 months ago. I always thought the rifle was homely compared to the No 4 Mk1 T version. The way the handguard/forearm meet, as BadgerDog says is a little
like Bubba. There were some cool pics of it at work in Afghanastan during the Russian occupation.

L42 clone

I don't have a pic. But...

Bought a Bishop stock set for a No 4 at a local gun show for $20. Then bought a sporterized No 4 Mk 1 for $60. In nice condition with metal work complete just cut wood. Found top wood at local gun show.

Bought a No 1 Mk 111 barrel band from e-bay, an S&K scope mount and a Russian scope that looks like a No 32.

Used a Pachmeyer recoil pad and a sniper sling swivel for just in front of the mag that I had in my parts box. Used Garand sling.

The whole thing shoots quite well, cost about $200 and if you squint hard looks kinda like an L42Enforcer (or as close as you are likely to get without spneding 3-4K)

Sounds good Badger. Looking forward to the pics.
IMO, if you're going to bubba an Enfield, at least go the L42A1 route. Those Enforcers look pretty sharp to my eyes.

Ok Rain_Song ..... :)

Here you go....

The rifle belongs to ~Angel~, not me, but I at least get to handle it to take pics ... :D

Those are excellent pics, Badger: that is an awesome looking rifle. I'm going to set up something similar to what ~Angel~ has there. Call me what you will, but I don't see anything bubba in setting up a configuration like that. Looks good and probably shoots good too.
Thanks my friend.

Hey 55recce got any picture's? What top wood did you use?No 4 or No 5. I matched up my No 5 upper to my No 4 lower but were the barrel band on the top handguard went it matched up to where the No 4 lower had a groove (lightening) cut in the stock. So the problem would have been that the No 4 lower would have had to have been patch on the end. Hope you got all this.Lots of typing to explain such a small concept. I'm kinda partial to the look of the enforcer my self but thought the top handguard would limit the use of a scope with a large lens. Thanks hope ya can help

Mark S. here on the board made up an L42A1 clone.
I believe that he used Enfield No.8 (.22cal) top wood on his.
It would be nice to use one of the repro LE scope mounts with a quality scope.
It's a nice way to resurrect a Bubba and end up with something a little bit different, but tasteful.

I'm trying to do something similar with a (badly) sporterised No4Mk2. Bubba drilled and tapped crooked holes for a Weaver T01 scope base as well as cutting the barrel, so this one was never a candidate for restoration.

The appearance I am going for is Enfield Enforcer, though. I have a commercial target buttstock - monte carlo and full pistol grip, and I've cut back a rear handguard to match the length of the sportered forestock, but there is a some work to do there to fit the stock band, because the stock would have tapered to a smaller diameter for a No.4 stock band. I intend to leave it .303, so I'm not sure yet whether I will re-barrel it of have it cut back a bit further and crowned and fit a target (hooded) foresight. To begin with, I intend to use one of my Cad-Technik mounts for the scope to see how much potential it has before deciding whether to try to fill the holes from the T01 and re-tap for another mount.

Angel's rifle looks good BadgerDog, which is encouraging for me. Thanks.

Here is my attempt to bring new life to a bubba'd N04Mk.2. It was painted this colour when I got it. The scope is from a Carl G rocket launcher, which needs to be mounted. The other two are my No.1 & No.4 Savage.

Millwright

You are correct. I run an actual Enforcer and have had to remove the top wood just to scope it with a moderately sized lens (42 or 44 mm I believe).

I guess you could "scallop" out some of the wood if it was close.

Timberlord

I bought some of that wood for another project I'm working on. It's brand new and looks really nice.
