OK, I might sound like I'm the only one that is clueless here so I'll have to ask.
What is the deal with Labradar? Why everyone is selling their units? What happen? I even read posts like "Labradar is over as a company".
So what is the deal. There is something going on I should be aware of? I sold mine two years ago due to circumstances but I was ready to buy a new one when I start reading all kinds of stuff. Please explain so I won't die clueless in this matter.
Thank you

I got the thing that Garmin came out with something else but if Colt comes out with a new SA in .357 I'm not gonna sell my Ruger in .357 just because there is a newer toy in town. I honestly don't know why Labradar is "done as a company". Oh and I did a search and 95% of the posts are around the subject. If I would have found the answer I would have not posted a new topic just for fun.

So you saw the posts that pretty much all concluded that it's smaller, lighter, more reliable, has more included features, built by a more reputable company, and costs less money, and couldn't figure out why people might choose the Xero over the Labradar if given the choice?

That's interesting.

If I remember correct when Labradar first came on the market it was presented with the same fanfare like Garmin now. Just look at the first videos about Labradar when it first came out. It was presented as the absolute best. Not sure what to think of "more reliable" as it is not super tested as Labradar is. Labradar cons came to light as more people were buying it and test it.
In all honesty I was convinced that someone found out that Infinition of Trois-Rivieres is going out of business or is involved in some horrid scandal that I'm not aware of. I googled those scenarios to find out for myself before opening this thread but couldn't find anything.
Garmin in my book is not a reputable company. As a truck driver I spent at least 4000$ in their GPS units along the years and every time I reached the same conclusion. They start with presenting their product as the cat pajama to find out later that is just another electronic gadget that I cannot replace the internal battery and the Lifetime Map Update is in fact a sham. I won't go in details.
Thank you for your input.
And BTW Labradar is cheaper than Garmin.

But then how would he learn? Lol

Teach a man to fish .......

We have the largest and most comprehensive store of information ever assembled and it is all right at our fingertips within fractions of a second and yet it doesn't seem to be making humanity any smarter.

LOL. And apparently you can lead a horse to water but can't make the horse understand the importance of drinking.

At the time, LabRadar was a game changer. Hence the hype. Garmin has simply made a better widget.

LabRadar is not cheaper. You probably compared a US price to CAD. There are guys trying to sell used LabRadar for more than a new Garmin.

FWIW I've had a standalone Garmin GPS for my dirt biking for about 8 years now and it has been totally reliable. I'd never give it up at this point.

Labradar on their website is 500$ USD. Garmin is 800 CDN which means 583$ USD. Maybe I don't look at the cheapest options available but that's what I found.
But really the price is not that important when it comes to features. Maybe Garmin is ahead of Labradar technology wise at this moment in time. But because of that I wouldn't make statements as "Labradar is done". The rivalry between Lawrence and Garmin on fishfinders is legendary. One comes out with something then the other one after a while comes out with something better and so forth. The competition is awesome for the consumer. But because one is better than the other at one moment in time doesn't mean the other one is done.
I opened the thread simply because I thought there is a crucial piece of information that I'm not aware of regarding the fall of Labradar.

The only real negative I see for the Garmin is the lack of an sd card for data transfer and the use of a proprietary binary file format for data. I think it will dominate the market. That said, the labradar is still a very good option and there’s deals to be had on them.

Competition improves the breed.
