Can anyone tell me what to expect from the Lake City M118 ammo? I picked up 6 boxes of 20 for $30 at a gun show here at Montreal. It's 173 grain, 2550 fps, lot# 20 -30 and '72 and LC headstamp. Was that a good deal? I'm clueless.

Yeah I saw those on the table. What are you shooting it out of....hopefully not a M14.

its a tad heavy for a M14....it should shoot good out a bolt action 1/12 or 1/10 twist around one MOA

The M118 is not that great. Federal GMM is a lot better.

The M118 I shot out of my AI 700 shot between 1 and 2 MOA.

Before you shoot the M118, you might want to just seat the bullets a C-hair deeper to crack the sealant the Military uses. This will result in more consistant results in regards to neck tension on the bullet.

Or do what I did.Pull all the 173gr bullets and substitute 168gr SMKs as the shooters did for the 1968 Pan-Am games in Mexico.Thats where the term "Mexican Match" came from.

Even M118LR was kinda disappointing ( got my hands on 30 rounds of it:D ) compared to Federal GGM.But my custom loads still kicked both their assess!!!!!!!!:dancingbanana:

In the main, it is heavy for the M14, but thats what they used in the M14 spotter rifles.

You got a pretty good deal. The lowest I have seen on the westcoast is $10 per box.

SAVE THE BRASS!!!!!!!!!!!!;) It is excellent for reloading (or I will take it off your hands for you).

I still have 6 boxes of M118 hanging around, plus 20 rounds of M118LR.:D

SKBY.

I guess I did get a deal!! :dancingbanana:

Yep, the Norc M14 is going to eat it all up!!. Not all at once though. I'll use Skullboy's advice to seat the bullet in a little bit to break the seal.
