Long story short. Was inquiring with a friend about a rifle he's selling (I'll get that SKS some day). Ended up with a Lakefield Mark 2 for free. Was under water in a flooded building for a couple months before being rescued with a canoe. Did a soak in seafoam (sounds like the right product right?) and snaked the bore. Everything freed up and it runs good. Stock is kinda worse for wear. Did a bit of research and apparently Lakefield was bought by savage and this rifle is the design that turned into the mark 2 savage. Does anyone know if the parts interchange? They come with different stock options and also an acutrigger.

Why not call Savage & ask them.
The stock is servicable but swollen in odd places. Thought if aftermarket stocks are made for the savage they might fit. Don't really want to buy one on a gamble. Might just clean this up as best as I can and leave it with a story to tell.
It is true that Savage's MkII started as the Lakefield MkII. Savage later changed things up a bit, and added the accu-trigger. Stocks may be fitted to both/either model but always just "drop in".
Some parts are still the same like magazines and retainers, but pretty sure the newer bolts are longer.
Good score for free no matter what. If the bore survived the flooding you should wind up with a respectable, and proudly Canadian gem.

It seems to shoot ok. Haven't really taken the time to shoot for accuracy yet. Think I'm gonna give the stock a quick sand and some oil and leave it be. Has become my current favorite for tromping around the yard and throwing in the truck. Until the next one comes along.
I just picked up a Lakefield Mark II, so I was able to compare it to my Savage Mark IIs.
The Lakefield bolt is shorter and the cocking piece is different. The firing pin is round in profile on my lakefield and rectangular on my Savages. The Lakefield action is secured to the stock by a single screw instead of two.
I pulled the two apart to give you some photos
Scoped is Lakefield. The other is a 2010/2011 Stevens 300F (Basically a Savage Mk. IIF with a 13" barrel and without Accutrigger
Wood stock is Lakefield, plastic is Stevens
Cocked Lakefield bolt on the left, Cocked Savage bolt on the right

3 Savage Mk. II/Stevens 300 bolts (2 cocked, 1 uncocked) and the Lakefield Mk. II bolt (uncocked)
