so I just got this really beat up Lakefield, here is couple of questions:

1. its missing a mag, is it mossberg or savage that works with it?
2. the mag housing is held together with a steel line, is that normal?
3. there is some pitting on the barrel, any way to "fill" them in and blue so its more appealling?

The big question is "what is it worth. They sell regularly for up to $100 if in great shape. I have a Mark 1 and Mark 2.... To try to resurrect a sad shape one is really only worth it if it is a hierloom.....Probably the gun in total is only worth the same as the cost of the blueing kit and of the mag, which is now Savage made. Just my opinion

Not sure if this helps. The markII were actually pretty good shooters and scopeable so easily worth $100 if in reasonable good shape----Cowboy

I'm 99% sure the Savage mag will fit. Lakefield Arms was bought out by Savage some time ago, so it seems logical that a Savage MKII mag would fit a Lakefield MKII as well. I think I remember my PAL instructor mentioning something about it. His bolt action we tested on was a Lakefield, and I think he mentioned that Savage mags fit on it, or that they were so closely similar that it didn't matter... Sorry, it was a long time ago.

The Savage mag will work in the Lakefield, I have a Savage Mark II BV and a Lakefield Mark II and use both mags in both guns.

thanks guys, your help and input is much appriciated
Ill have to think really hard what to do with it, keep it or sell it, I hope that once the wood is redone Ill fall in love with it, as I did with my buddys Cooey:)
somehow I dont think cold blueing is going to do well on this one
