Hello all,

Just got this rifle for my young son. Upon playing with it, I couldn't help notice that when the bolt is open, you can see a narrow rectangular opening in the base of the receiver. Something you would expect for a magazine.

However, this is a single shot rifle with an apparent original stock. The stock doesn't have a hole or plate of any type to accommodate the hole in the receiver. If you load a round and aren't careful, it falls into the hole and you have to flip the rifle over and shake it out.

Is this part of the normal design? ... or is if missing a feed ramp of some sort?

I'm only a couple years into the hobby so my knowledge here is weak on this one.

Help is appreciated!

I've attached actual pictures to show the rifle and the receiver hole is question ....

... this is the gap

Looks like it was a magazine fed repeater that someone has put in a single shot stock.

Barrel says "Mark I" which is bolt action. "Mark II" would be a repeater.

A PM from another member with the same rifle says his has a spring loaded ramp feeder.

Confirmation and pics would be nice, and then I still need a vendor and/or parts number to find a fix.

Cool score.

The MkI, and MkII are identical except for that cut in the receiver, and the magazine well. Pop it out of the stock, and you'll see it tapped to retain one. Here's a MkIII (semi) that utilized the same magazine well. Still made new today by Savage [magazine wells NOT MkIII's] here in Canada (Near Peterborough). Takedown stud retains the front of the assembly.
