Lakefield(Savage) Mark 2: safety interfering with trigger reset

I have a Lakefield Mark 2 (before Savage took over). I bought it as I really liked the vintage 70's/60's look of it with the weaver rings and metal weaver scope. And, it is a very accurate shooter(I've been getting similar groups to my newer generation accutrigger Savage Mark 2).

But, there is an annoying usability issue: I've found that as I cycle the bolt I will sometimes touch the safety lever switch which is near the bolt handle and when pulling the bolt back, I'll slightly drag the safety lever back a couple of millimeters. What I've discovered is that if the safety isn't 100% forward, the trigger will encounter some resistance on reset. ie. The trigger stays fully depressed and doesn't return. If I'm cycling the bolt for rapid follow up shots, and that trigger gets stuck back, then the bolt can be pulled out(For those of you who don't know, on the Savage/Lakefield Mark 2's the bolt release is activated by holding the trigger down while sliding the bolt back).

Here's the annoying scenario: First shot with the safety fully forward goes perfectly. Then, I cycle the bolt rapidly and in my haste, my hand touches the safety dragging it back slightly. The next shot goes off fine, but the trigger doesn't reset and I don't notice it is stuck in the depressed position( I take my finger off the trigger to cycle the bolt again.) When I move my hand to cycle the bolt to chamber the 3rd cartridge, if I pull hard on the bolt(normal for me when I'm trying to rapid fire) the bolt slides free. I've never had the bolt fly out of the gun, but it definitely throws me off my game. I can flick the trigger fully forward, adjust the safety, and continue to chamber the next round.

Anyway, it is annoying to have to keep checking to see if the safety is all the way forward.

I can't be the first person to have encountered this problem: Anyone able to offer pointers of how to fix this? Some way to stiffen up the safety lever so that it doesn't move so easily when I touch it?
