having some trouble with an old .22 semi-auto not ejecting shells properly. i have tried several different brands of ammo to varying degrees of success, but it seems that at least 2 out of 10 shells will eject about halfway before the bolt closes on the empty brass. i have torn the gun apart twice, cleaned, polished and lightly oiled everything, but it still jams up.
is it possible to adjust the spring tension(it seems pretty stiff compared to other semi-autos i've looked at), or does this sound more like an extractor problem?
any suggestions?

have a look here, there may be a few suggestions that will work

are you sure you didn't forget to install ejector, or is it not bend ot simply worn-out? Those are fairly finiky pieces on Lakefields 64B, things that go into slot by the side of a barrel. In any case if gun is very old it might worth buying new ejector, they are only a few $$, check numrich I am sure they have it.

Spring tension like you suggested cold be a problem as well.

Try all kinds of ammo - standard velocity ( target ammo) or subsonic, hi velocity and hypervelocity. In department stores like Canadian Tire or Wal Mart you will most likely only find hi velocity ammunition and maybe stinger. And those are all of the same breed, giving you almost identical recoil impulse, even stingers ( very light bullet). You have to try something different.

We have a Winchester-Cooey 64 and it likes Yellow Jackets and Federal Bulk packs. If you want to get a new extractor, try Western Gun Parts as they will likely be faster than ordering from Numrich

Stay away from most of the Winchester .22 stuff. Very dirty and tends to jam up all three Lakefields I currently own. Don't go crazy with the lube either.

another one for keeping it VERY clean. Mine tends to be very picky about which ammo I use. Hyper velocity bullets tends to be more problem-matic

Dump it. The 64's either functioned flawlessly, or were complete POS. I have owned 3 because I was a slow learner.

My son's gave problems so I took it apart and cleaned it. Having heard of two that never went back together,I laid it out on the bench in order. Some of the pressed parts like the firing pin had edges,so I stoned those off. And fed it Remingtons only,it's not a 10/22.It now works fine. Accurate

If it jambs with a full clip, try only loading 7 or 8 . Got one that will not function with a full 10 shot clip no matter how clean or what it's fed.

thanks for the advice!! just sold it to a friend of mine(yes, he is aware of the problem, but isn't too worried about it, bought it for his son to practice with) so i'll pass it all along to him
