Laminate vs hardwood SKS

Is the cost difference worth it?
This gun is going to be my redheaded stepchild shoot it till I'm blue in the face.

Are the laminates in any way better fitted, more accurate, anything worth it?
 
I can't tell you whether they are worth the difference, but the laminated stock was developed as an enhancement over hardwood stocks, because they are more resilient, and not as prone to warping due to environmental conditions. So if you're going to use the rifle in a practical or more serious manner, such as hunting, the laminated stock may offer some worthwhile benefits. If its just a casual target rifle, it may not be as big of an issue for you. Just my 2 cents.
 
The laminates were used to club socialist swine. Plan on doing any of that? :D

I can't speak to the quality of the laminate stocks, but my hardwood stock was pretty rough around the edges...I could have chiseled a better stock with a butter knife. The wood stock is a little soft and would get dinged relatively easy if not careful, so if asthetics and durability is really important to you, I'd go with a laminate.

For a shooter, get the lam. When you run out of ammo, you can beat the tree your trying to cut down, and it will not break like the solid.

I don't think it would be worth it if its going to be your red headed step child gun.
And I like the looks of the hardwood more, looks tougher.

A laminate stock is much stronger and tougher than a hardwood stock and wont warp and swell with moisture changes .. Just think about how they make hockey sticks , plywood , supporting beams in buildings .. all laminate wood ..
 
The beauty of that rich wood grain though...IMO its a Red rifle...and the hardwood makes that red stand out...big time... But for what you are going to use... get whatever you want.... If you dont like the hardwood there are enough spare stocks around you can prob pick one up for 40 bucks
 
The laminates may be stronger, and sometimes look nicer. But if you find a nice hardwood stocked SKS, the are the best looking of all. I have a few that look like they are on fire, just beautiful organic wood grain in the birch.

Yeah I agree with you there. I prefer the look of hardwood vs. laminate, unfortunately, the local shop only had refurbs with laminated stocks.

Atleast my gas tube handguard is hardwood :p

I never said hardwood was tougher just said it looked tougher as in meaner and nicer in my opinion.
