Lancer Mags

Can we get the Lancer L5 translucent Mags here in Canada?
if so where? and does any one have experience?

Yes and yes. $32.99/each. The rivets are countersunk, so they won't scrape your mag well. These have a nice rubber base so they won't get too dinged up when dropping, and while not as durable as the PMAGs they are significantly lighter.

light is good...have you personally used them?

Yes, both the original L5 20/5-rnd and 30/5-rnd and the new L5 Warfighter. If only we could run full capacity, the translucent case would be sweet. These will not work in an FS2000 and may work in an MR223 (I didn't have one to test it on), and also note that these will not load on a closed bolt unless you only load it to 4 rounds.

so between the pmags (which is what i have on my build list right now) and the L5's which ones would you spend the money on for reliability and practicality over esthetics?

my build is going to be a 10.5"

Truthfully, our 5-round capacity limit eliminates the benefits of either (and certainly the translucent case). Neither the PMAG or Lancer is going to be entirely reliable in extreme cold.

PMAGs are (generally) pinned at 5.5-rounds, so you can load on a closed bolt. They also have a dust cover that clips on the bottom and you can add a ranger plate to help with mag changes. They come in 4 colours. Heavier.

Lancers are pinned to 5-rounds, so you can't load on a closed bolt. No dust cover, but they do have a shock-absorbant rubber base pad, aluminum feed lips and a redesigned rear to avoid issues with the bolt catch. Translucent. Lighter.

For purely practical purposes I'd go with a bunch of LAR-15's with the aluminium couplers. That gets you a 20 (10-10) round legal magazine. Beyond that, it's really personal preference - so if you absolutely want some polymer magazines I'd suggest 2 of each (Lancer and PMAG) to see which you prefer.

maybe thats what ill do...get 2 LAR with couplers, 2 Pmags, and 2 Lancers...(i wanted 6 mags anyway) and see which one i like the best..

im just picky with "little touches" and dislike the "stuck together" look of the Lars coupled together..but i guess i could keep one pmag or lancer for photos

also are there any issues with the lower LAR mag haveing the rounds upside down...like rounds falling out or the risk of dropping the mag and smashing a round on the ground?

The LAR-15's are actually very functional coupled together (just ensure you get the aluminium couplers, as the plastic ones are unreliable). You won't have to worry about the rounds falling out, but I would probably avoid dropping them when coupled, as you're almost certain to bend the feed lips. Tapco makes a rubber magazine cover that you can get from Brownells that will work on the LAR-15, Lancer, etc. I use these on my LAR-15's. Plus aesthetically they look better with these on the bottom when coupled. ;)

If you just want to run the single LAR-15's I'd recommend getting either the Magpul Ranger (pull-tab) or L-Plate (solid base); they increase the rigidity of the LAR-15 as well as afford the magazine quite a bit of shock absorption when dropping (and you're less likely to ding the magazine up).

thanks for all your input Blaxsun, i think ill knab a couple different mags and try them out

No problem at all. The LAR-15's are kind of crappy, but they're the only legal 10-round magazines so we can use, so... At least upgrading the followers and base plates (or couplers) on the LAR-15's makes them less craptastic. The PMAGs and Lancers are both great, but again - it really comes down to personal preference. I would probably recommend getting 2 of each otherwise you get boned on the shipping for just a single magazine. Good luck!

building my first...all i have is the upper right now but im slowly getting the bits and pieces as the wife gives me my allowance

 Just curious if all you have is the upper right now, why are you waste money on buying mags, save that money for the lower or at least spend it on small items like lower parts kit and such.
