Lantac Dragon/BMD vs. Noveske KX3/KX5 - Preferences/Pros/Cons

Hi all,

I've read the muzzle device sticky thread, but am still curious as to people's preferences on these two muzzle device systems on a SBR (10.5") AR15 platform. I am looking for real world experiences with these systems, and your preferences, pros, cons, etc. of one versus the other.

Obviously the Lantac system is 2 parts, and therefore more $$$, but it is also modular whereas the Noveske system(s) are set as is.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

ive had/used both. lantac is loud and shoots nice and flat without the bmd. i think it is better suited on 14.5+ size barrels. with the bmd you loose a bit of the climb mitigation and gain benefit from pushing the sound/concussion forward as perceived to the shooter

noveske simply directs the concussion forward, and does this pretty well.

looks wise - flame suit on - i like the kx5 tucked under a rail. would also hesitate to use an aggressive brake on sub 14.5 guns

well i have owned a KX3, several dragons, and just to throw into the mix a ferfrans (just to make a comparison using a BMD)

all three devices i have had installed on my DDMK18

the KX3 was relatively heavy but sent a good bit of the percussion down range but did nothing much for muzzle rise mitigation, one downside was cleaning it. i was having a bunch of buildup inside and it was a ##### to dissasemble. maybe it was just mine? now since sold.

the Dragon on the mk18 was light but makes your teeth chatter when you shoot it and your buddy shooting next to you on either side gets fap'd. it does its job exactly as it should. follow up shots are super easy and fun. its now installed on my IUR upper and its perfect.

the only BMD experience i have is with the ferfrans. its heavy as fack. like 12oz on the end of the barrel heavy. looks especially cool on the mk18 but too much weight. muzzle rise mitigation was not nearly as good running it with the shield installed but concussion was much more tolerable to neighbours. i must admit i havnt looked into the weight of the dragon with their bdm so i cant fully compare. now since sold.

unless you are shooting indoors or in some sort of team match doing cqb i wouldnt worry about the extra weight the bdm adds.

PS guns are loud.... the guy shooting his weatherby 30-378 with ported barrel off the bench beside me will get a big FU when he tells me my little AR is too loud lol

Pretty much what jg007 said. I have both as well and the difference is really the fundamental difference between a muzzle brake and a comp on a short barrel. The choice is simple if you don't own a SBR, its Lantac Dragon. If you do own a 14" minus barrel and still want reduced recoil despite the concussive blast and have complete disregard for anyone shooting beside you then Lantac Dragon. Or if you really hate everyone on the range then Precision Armament M4-72 Severe Duty. If you own a SBR and want a nice shooting weapon without a concussive blast, KX5. I must admit, it does look nice tucked under a Noveske NSR rail but it doesn't do much for longer barrels.

If you go to the TTAG website they have a 3 part muzzle brake shoot out for 5.56, a .308 muzzle brake shoot out and a flash hider shoot out. Here is the link to the part one which also has updated links to the rest.

I hope this helps
