Lapua brass Vs. Nosler brass...

What are thoughts between these two brass manufacturers'? Is the Lapua more consistent and/or stronger? Do the primer pockets start loosening up alot quicker with the Nosler Brass?

Nosler is softer. never had a primer pocket issues...both, well weight seperated..I am having a hard time not shooting anyhing that Lapua doesn't make brass for. Wish they made 7mm Rem Mag brass..well thats where Nosler is good.

My Nosler 280AI is very consistent,but a little soft,so I back off my loads a touch to keep the primer pockets from loosening.I have used Lapua brass in a few chamberings,and it is almost as consistent,and last longer.Given the choice,I will always choose Lapua over all other brass.

I look at the fact that Nosler is around $10 less but has only 50 pieces compared to Lapua's 100 pieces.

I have seen information,that depending on the chambering,there,there may be up to three companies supplying brass for Nosler.Some seems to be very high quality,and some seems to be of lower quality,depending on the particular chambering.

I suspect that smaller capacity rather than softer brass accounts for prematurely enlarged primer pockets in Nosler brass. A pal of mine who had a Sako Mannlicher Carbine in .270, was getting 3200 with 130s from the 20" barrel! Primer pockets wont last long like that.

That hasn't been my experience.I am only running 3140fps with 140gr bullets from my 280AI,with a 24" barrel,so the loads are not excessive.The Nosler data lists 3265fps with the exact same combination of case,powder,primer,and bullet,but with a 26" barrel.My powder charge is actually 2 grains less than in the Nosler manual,and I am running a 1 in 10" twist,compared to their 1 in 9" twist.Even with 2" less barrel,I am running over 120fps less velocity than they list,so my loads are slightly milder than theirs.As it is,the primer pockets last for around six loadings before loosening more than I would like,and when I added a grain of powder,that changed to three or four loadings.

My 140gr TTSX load reaches the same velocity with one grain less powder,and the primer pocket life is pretty much the same.

I use the Nosler brass for my 280AI,because they save me fire forming,and accuracy has been very good.

If you can get it in lapua use lapua. I have 6BR brass that has been through 5 barrels and still going strong. I have - in my entire shooting life - had to discard only two pieces of Lapua brass after 20+ firings, two had split necks.

Norma is nice brass, but softer. I use it in my 6XC and i like it; no issues.

Instead of using Nosler - unless there is a spcific caliber you have in mind, i would just use Winchester and weight-sort.

Which is an interesting way of saying that Nosler brass is about $80 more expensive than Lapua brass.

I have used both types of brass and haven’t seen significantly improved results over stock Winchester Brass. I know that sounds hard to believe but all I buy now is Winchester brass and I can buy way more of per dollar in comparison to the others.
