Anybody use these? I've been using the 160 gr TTSX in my 8x57 but am not exactly enamoured with it's terminal performance after landing a few on deer and elk, they are very accurate though. Everything has died.

I can live with the blunt shape if it gives me a reaction to the shot or a blood trail. And they're cheaper than my old standby Nosler Partition.
 
No experience with the naturalis. How about the 200 accubond? Usually a bit less expensive than the partition and they work very well.
 
Another very effective option is the Norma 196 grain ORYX
I have now taken 5 head of game with them....none has
made it more than 10 yards. Dave.
 
No, they go right through even on elk with narrow wound channels, I'm thinking the 8x57 isn't fast enough.

Hit a Mule Deer with a 200 grain Partition and as often as not it'll come rolling down the hill, hit it with the TTSX and stand there scratching your head if you even hit it.

I'm only using the unleaded to keep the Old Lady happy.
 
Interesting to hear. The 180gr tsx has really impressed me with drops on the spot and recovered one In a deer. Beautiful example of expansion. I'm pushing them near 2800 fps in the 8x57.

8mm Barnes TSX 180gr @ 2780 fps. 185 yard Frontal chest shot. Expansion was great. 100% weight retained.

I used one Naturalis on game - 220gr 'LR' 9.3x62 at about 2550fps at the muzzle. Whitetail buck, high lungs. No heavy bones hit. Damage was quite limited. He ran about 80m

I wonder if the issues with expansion that the OP is seeing is a combination of the not particularly high velocity of the cartridge coupled with using the tipped version of the bullet rather than the standard. Maybe the tip is the straw that breaks the camel's back when it comes to the bullet being able to upset.

Not to sure if the tip is the issue, maybe the velocity is on the lower end. The tip is supposed to help with having good expansion. Quick load shows you can push the 160gr ttsx to 2950-3000fps +/- in a 24 inch barrel with the right powders. With that type of velocity that bullet should preform great, even if it starts at 2700-2800 fps you should see good results. I have a few boxes of the 160gr ttsx that i will load up, and hopefully use next season.
 
I figure impact velocities in the 2500-2600 fps range. Maybe I'm being too picky, everything has died or maybe I got a harder *batch* but I'd sure hate to shoot an animal at last light with no snow.

My thoughts being that Lapua appears to have put more emphasis on expansion given the shape.

I did get some 110gr Tac-Tx's to try in the 7.62x39, if they don't group adequately I'll try them in larger 30 cal driven fast.
