What about weight?

I have none but when I was asking myself this question, I appreciated the fact that a .338lapua is half the weight.

Nobody talked about it so I guess nobody go hiking with their long range rifle..?

Maybe the guys out in Alberta do, where long range is very close by for many.

They are no featherweights, despite the fact that they are a lot lighter then the .50.

I would not dream of hiking around further then a kilometer or two with either one of my .338's.

Park car, set up shooting mat nice and close.

My 338 LAI is about 20 lbs and I go for long walks with it, not frequently.
I certainly don't run any marathons carrying it... ;)

Theyre both monsters in the pocketbook in regards to feeding them and keeping them happy, Id have to opt for the .338, you can shoot it a heck of alot more in a single sitting then you can the .50 with out the physical toll on your body in a few hours afterwards/the next day, granted the .50 has the "ooh cool its a .50", and "I can shoot through damn near anything" status as well, which is fine and dandy dont get me wrong, (and the added bonus of ticking off any politician as well, due to the fact that they think .50s in the hands of criminals would be the Apocalpyse/end of the world as we know it... yet they fail to realize (Im gona use California as an example) that they seem to think if a gangbanging thug can walk into a 7/11 with a 30lb Barrett and rob the place, I would start to think that if a gangbanger could do that in the first place he/she should REEEALLY consider a career in the military :D) So again, with the majority of .50's prohibited here in Canuckistan yes the added cool factor is definitley there, and heck if ya have the pocketbook for her diet of rounds then go for it! Personally they are definitley both in the heavyweight category for lugging around say for hunting etc. I know Id rather lug around a .338 Timberwolf then one of our LRT-3's, I do agree with Kevin M. though, park your car, set up camp, and shooooooooot till the cows come home! :D

Cheers,

The whole point of long range rifle is to NOT have to hike around as much:p
I really prefer to have my bullet do the traveling rather than my boots.:D
