Lar-15 mags and paint

Has anyone ran in to problems from painting their lar mags? Specifically covering the wording that says "pistol magazine - 10 round capacity"?? I would like to paint them to match my rifle but don't know if I would get hassled by the man because he can't easily see that they are pistol mags. So my options are mask off that area or carry acetone with me to remove paint for over zealous law enforcement.

So what say you CGN??
 
My C Products mags are laser etched and I believe even a thin coat would cover the wording. Maybe paint mag body and leave floor plate alone so that there is some original wording??

Hmm... Really didn't consider that the paint might make them not drop free or hard to insert. Maybe I'll try one of my beat up 5/30's first

Keep in mind these are a manufactured sheet-metal product. As such they are subject to dimensional variances, batch to batch, manufacturer to manufacturer. Just because paint does or does not affect one magazine, does not mean that it will equally affect the next magazine. I would first try and make some paper shims to fit the mag well. If you line the bearing surfaces with paper and your magazine still drops free, you'll know you have plenty enough space for the paint.

Absolutely! Some of mine are tighter than others.
 
Well first run of my painted C Products 5/30 is good! Drops free and doesn't need to be "Rambo'd" in. So I'm thinking I'll give the Lar-15 mag a new coat because I'm really liking the OD mags with my OD furniture.

Also, I think I will not paint the floor plate because it has the "pistol magazine - 10 round capacity" wording on it, however that will be gone once I switch to ranger plates, so....
 
When I shoot my LAR's at the range, from time to time someone will come up and ask me how I can be shooting 10 rounds out of an AR.

A lot of people don't know this is legal, and I am waiting for the day that some "know it all", or an off duty officer or the likes, that is not aware of the fact that 10 round LAR's can be used in a semi auto rifle come up and question me.

For this reason, I always carry the letter from the RCMP on Questar's section that states these are legal to use.

I would be very reluctant to cover, or remove the ID stamping on my LAR mags, as the letter could be questioned if you can't display the information on the LAR mag.

That's just my 2 cents.

If you are going to paint I'd just mask off the top that sits in the magwell and spray the bottom part to match the rifle. That way the mag will still behave like it did prior to the paint.
 
so consensus is?

I have mags that I want to refinish and the wording is painted on

maybe I can make a stencil or something??
