Large Lever Loops (own thread)

... please help me understand the value of the large loop. It seems cumbersome and awkward. Would it even fit in a scabbard?

I'm in the process of ordering a lever gun that comes stock with the large loop, and I have requested that they ship with the regular size.

comments appreciated.

supposedly it's so you can manipulate the gun with GLOVES-however, in real life, i have a standard loop and do just tine with gloves- and i run a size 11 hand- and any saddlemaker/leathersmith/whatever can make a scabbard- just take a piece of lined leather(or unlined- whatever, place the gun on it, follow the bottom outline, and fold it in half- that's the way the natives do it- the stitch the 2 sides together- and i can "twirl" with the standard loop too

Yeah, wild west stuff...Order directly thru Brownells..they are pretty quick and accurate with their orders....

I wouldn't mind one, a larger loop for a 94 would be just the ticket for Winnie 30-30. The loop would only have to be about 3/4 of an inch deeper and an extra 1/2 inch to 1 inch longer would really accomodate my hand. I suppose when they originally designed it the men where a little smaller in stature in 1895. And $ 200.00 seems a little steep for a gun handle that would be fairly common to produce and sell.

actually, the lever is called the "rifleman's loop" and if you can push out a pin on the 94, you can change the lever- and it's quite availble- and not 200 either

Always get a gunsmith to do the loops. Some fine work has to be done to make them work. Winchester's are hard.
