It looks like most of the places I've been to are out of regular large rifle primers, but there seems to be a shortage of magnum primers. I wound up grabbing a pack of Remington 9 1/2 M primers. I'm going to be using these primers for .500 S&W and 38-55. Is there anything I need to know about using these primers versus standard large rifle primers when it comes to load data? I'm working with VV N110 powder for the .500 S&W, and the Lyman books give me loading information between 29.7 grains and 33 grains for the cast bullet I'm using.
While the Lyman manuals recommend CCI 200 large rifle primers, at the moment, I've been using Winchester brass, which uses large pistol magnum. I've been using it safely at 29.7 and 30.5 grain loads. I now have both Hornady and Starline brass which both are designated for large rifle, so this will be my first time using any large rifle primer.
I don't kno wthe loading info off the top of my head for 38-55, but a general idea as to how the regular versus magnum primers work with loads would help.
