I am thinking I would like to add 'laser assist' to a few of my handguns, shotguns and rifles. (We won't get into the aging eyesight discussion here). In some cases this will be in addition to scopes.
I have lasergrips on my Glock 30 that are comfy but make the grip pretty fat for smaller hands. I have lasergrips on my Beretta. Same issue.
As of late I have seen products from manufacturers that put the laser assist on a set of rear sights (I think they are only 3mw. though... rather than the standard 5mw.); I have seen laser sights that replace the recoil spring as well for Glocks, 1911's and so on; and, I have seen plenty of laser assists that clamp onto the rail on a handgun or rifle.
I have two questions:
1. Are you using laser assist or know of someone who is and have your tried them out - your opinion of the various varieties/models? I am partial to the Laserlyte's that go into the place where the recoil spring would normally go as well as the ones that replace the rear sights but have ZERO experience with them and would love to hear from those that have played with them. I certainly can attest to the Crimson Trace Lasergrips... they do a great job without altering holstering requirements but they fatten up the grip which is not a good thing for me.
2. In terms of rifle or shotgun, I have seen them mounted on AR's and shotguns but am wondering what the useful range is.... perhaps both in terms of brightness on your target and distance.
I should mention that I also have a laser assist/weapon light combo that I have been playing with and it seems to hold its 'zero' pretty good but I have only been able to try it to about 25M or so. I am not keen on it on a handgun as it alters the profile of the handgun messing up your holstering options. And the light portion is piddly at best (I have $7 LED flashlights that are more rugged and do a better job - check eBay).
