Ranging gophers on flat land? That's going to be a very challenging application. The gopher is small and poorly reflective. I doubt you get any actual ranging off the gopher. I use a Nikon, and generally range off the terrain or treeline or perhaps a building or grain bin if there was one nearby. On flat, featureless land, I can't see you accurately ranging a gopher standing on the grass. Even if you did get a reflection from that severe angle to the ground, any slight movement up or down would have it ranging 50 yards closer or further. I'm skeptical of the usefullness of a laser rangefinder on gophers at the distance you mention of 300 yards. You'd be better off to simply estimate or use mildots.
