The air cadet squadron I work with is looking for a laser training aid for our biathlon team to use for dry fire practice. Another squadron was looking at a Russian made system that also uses computer software to track what is happening when the trigger is pulled. The downside of this system is its about $1600 per training aid.

Does anyone know of a good system that may be cheaper?

AFAIK the Rika system that you mentioned and the SCATT system which works in a similar fashion are the only ones. A laser might work but how is the laser data recorded if at all ? If it is just real time feedback with no data collection for reference there is little point. However , one method that could be used would be to mount a laser pointer to the FA and adjust it to intersect with the sight zero.
But again no method to record execution data.
