If the lasers are for pellet guns, go to "dealextreme". Not the best, but ok for just mucking around.

What do you consider a lower cost laser? The Chinese made keychain units for $5? Or are you talking weapon mounted stuff?

Weapon mounted just not a $$$$$$$ IR type something that can handle 223

I've had good luck with Sun Optics. They make a compact light/ laser unit for around $130. Similar to NC Star stuff. Chinese made and lifetime warranty.
No issues with .223. BUT DO NOT MOUNT ON A SHOTGUN!! They will blow apart! Having said that, the light flew off but the laser continued working!! My LGS replaced it promptly.
