Last day to shoot prohib rifles April 9?

Are you sorry you (in good faith) registered your military style rifles?

I am sorry to say this, but I can see through all of this a semi-auto rifle ban coming in the future. Both Britan and Australia went down this path, and within a few years ALL semi auto rifles (even rimfire) and semi auto shotguns (Australia) were BANNED, bought back and DESTROYED.

 :(

I don't know if this is supposed to make me sad or angry. More than anything, it makes me sad.

This happened in Australia in 1996, how long before it happens in Canada?

I just joined the conservative party. Good to see the liberals keep pushing law abiding citizens from their party!

Politically, although Stephen Harper appears as though he will be Prime Minister by the end of the year, I doubt they will start messing with the gun laws in a major way, although you might get SAPs issued again for target shooting.

IIRC, the tories were the ones that banned all these guns and came up with the SAP requirement for them in the first place. Given that the shooting of the four RCMP officers occurred in Alberta, where the Conservatives are strongest, I doubt they would want to send the message that they are going to weaken the laws surrounding the possession of the type of rifle used in that crime.

Steve I disagree with you post.

While the PC's (not specifically the new Conservative Party) did in fact prohibt the 12-3,4,5,6 guns and the extremely "effective" mag law - there was no restriction on shooting them with your normal ATT.

Most Canadians (I hope) realise than an illegal gun with an illegal owner do not make any case for gun control - in fact it proves it false.

I'm afraid that cybershooters is correct. Conservatives may be sympathetic to hunters (most of whom live in Western provinces and are at the core of the old Canadian Alliance party’s support base) but I doubt that they give a rat's ass about target shooters. There's simply not enough of us to have an influence on mainstream politics. By easing up the rules on "evil" restricted firearms, the Conservatives would be gaining very little politically, while at the same time running a very serious risk of appearing as a bunch of gun-ho rednecks in the eyes of the ignorant populace.

Sadly, restricted/prohibited owners have no friends as far as mainstream political parties are concerned. It seems that the best we can hope for is that Conservatives would not make things any worse.

On a side note, Australia's draconian 1996 gun control laws were brought about by a conservative government. And let’s not forget about Kim Campbell and Bill C-17. The Conservatives are anything but our friends; they are merely the least of two evils.

Cryin' shame Charlton Heston has Alzhiemers...we could get him up here on some speaking engagements!!! "From my cold dead hands!!!"
Sadly, I think the day will come that they come for all of our guns...which makes me think of a quote..."if you are coming for my guns, you better bring yours."
Now please let me qualify this quote...it is merely a quote and does not reflect my true beliefs or my intent as a law abiding citizen. (never know who monitors this forum!!)
Keep up the Fight!!!

At least there was some compensation offered. I don't think that the Canadian Gun Grab will offer anything in exchange for our private property  . It's for the saftey of the childeren you know. Think about the childeren

Well I think its because they don't want us hunting the F_ _ K _ _ G Liberal bastards who stole all out honestly earned Tax dollars. If only the puppet cops have guns they can do WTF they want cause no high capacity mags or Prohibs to worry them spells no revolt.

Now send in those applications people and get refusals in writing.

They thought they could get away with it...but they didn't think their overlords would get caught holding thick envelopes of cash!

With the grandfathering of certain firearms into the 12 (x) prohib category, those registered owners were promised that such grandfathering would apply for the rest of the life of the owner.

So much for promises.

Lying bastards!

Don't shoot me on this one..
It says you cannot go to the range with the rifles, but it doesn't say you cannot discharge these firearms does it? ie ) in the bush etc etc ect .. ? Isn't there any loop-hole in the wording of the new bill?
one weird thing is that you can go to the gunsmith with the rifle to get it fixed, but how would you know if the rifle needed this if it couldn't be fired? explain that !!

Sorry for the optimism here .. lol ..  :(
