I hesitate between the burris XTR 6-24x50 or the nikon tactical 4-16x50 and I dont know witch one to take, I will shoot .223 at 100-600m.

and secondly, i dont know what type of ring to buy, the low one, medium one, or the hight one......because it's 50mm, I dont want ending with ring that will put the front of my scope right on the barrel or even dont fit.

thanks

Buy the lowest ring that will fit your scope and rifle. Doubtful the low size will fit a 50mm, but a medium just might.

As for the scopes, spend some time looking through both, and go with your instinct. I think Burris and Nikon both make fine optics.

If you went with TPS Rings, then both would be 30mm Low's....

If you can find a Nikon tactical scope in Canada please let me know where you got it from because Nikon Canada has refused to bring them in for us. Phil.

Why 50mm? The light gaining benifits are not that great. And the mounting options with a 40mm are much better, not to mention weight.

The larger the objective the better the resolution and of course the brighter in low light (overcast etc.) as well as a larger exit pupil which gives you the ability to view a clear picture and not maintain perfect axial alignment with your scope / eye.

Given adjustable objectives and side focus scopes are common, I see little problem with the higher mounting position.

Bulk and weight are of course issues, but then so is the physical condition of the shooter.....

I've heard nothing but good things about Nikon Tactical, but wasn't able to obtain one in Canada :jerkit:

as for the rings you can calculate it yourself.......

1/2 of the objective lens = in your case 25mm (1") plus some clearance now check the base height plus ring height :)
