Late afternoon coyote down

I can't wait for my hunters course, thank you for posting. Awesome! Are these farms your personal properties? If not you need permission from the land owner to hunt on property correct? TY.

Not personal properties, they belong to land owners or farmers that I have met over the years and continue to build relationships with them. And yes, definitely need permission before being able to hunt the land(s)...
Some advice if you do gain access to some private property...... "Don't be a politician"... meaning...... don't go there only when you need them, visit them even in the off season....build a good relationship because friendships can last a lifetime, politicians only last a term/season or two :)

I would most definitely insist volunteering time to help them on the farm when needed, prior to any allowance of land use. It would only be respectful and fair, as they work damn hard for my existence. Earning the time to hunt would make it more satisfying to me in the end, coyote or no coyote. Thank you for the knowledge, and Merry Christmas to you and yours. GB

Thanks Fratri. That is helpful. The biggest trick would be how to get 'em closer for more sure shots. May need to make more field trips.

Papaclaude, you can hunt them in the bush but I think it's a different game. We started to call in the bush and they will respond but you'll only have 2-3 seconds to get a shot off IF THEY SHOW THEMSELVES. To coax them into an open lane it's a good idea to use a caller WITH A MOTION DECOY. We've had them come in but hold off on the last 30 metres, if they see the motion decoy I think they're more likely to commit. (Verified from tracks left in the snow). I don't think we get anywhere near as many responses in the bush as the field guys get but its worth the effort. Try hanging a large feather or 2 over your call if you don't have a decoy, even slight wind movement will give the feathers motion.

Just out of curiosity - do you guys all hunt fields, or will they come to, say, a deer stand in the bush?

They will certainly come to a call in the bush, but just like hunting them in the field, most of the time, nothing shows or at least you don't see them..... Getting in quietly and playing the wind is the key to starting a stand, minimize your movement and the least of all factors comes the sound....
Good luck
