Collected a new-to-me M39 recently to round out the -39 corner of my collection for the time being.

It's a 1968 stamped barrel with a post war stock, in good condition overall with a very good bore and a pleasant trigger pull weight.

I took it out to the range today to see how it could do, and was totally surprised, range was 100 yards for all:

With Czech silver tip (pardon the rimfire pattern):

I had never tried the 203 gr soft points by MFS until today, but I have a feeling that I'll be shooting them much more often. They shoot to a totally different POI, but snuggle up well- in the upper left corner:

I'll have to verify the consistency of this flavor of ammo, but if it can do this repeatably, I'll be very pleased.

Taking a look at the stock, the barrel has been very well free floated:

Funny that M-39's don't gather as much interest as other flavors. From what I've read they are the pinacle of Mosin developement, but they are like the plain Brady sister. And I've got 2 of them , so I'm not slagging on them by any means.

The other one is mildly Bubba'd and still in transit.
Nice rifle, by the way. The newer bbl is kinda neat.

The 'late date' run lasted to 1970, and according to some sources, into '71 or '72. I believe that while the M39 is up there when it comes to Mosin Nagant development (I think that the M28-76 and TKIV 85 are pinnacle, hands down), the late date M39's reflect the -39 coming to maturity.
