Heh there guys, I ordered a rifle for this seasons hunt (moose and deer), and it was backordered, and I knew that when I ordered it, but it looks like it may be later than what was origionally thought. I really wanted a new rifle for this seasons hunt, so I don't know if I should just choose a different caliber, or a different rifle. I already sent a Money Order, so it is going to be a pain in the butt if I wanted to get it back.

I ordered a Savage weather warrior 116fcss, (accutrigger, and accustock, detachable mag) in .300win mag.

I own a Marlin 336 in 30-30, and a 12 gauge that I could use slugs if I wanted to wait it out.

You can't go wrong with a 30-06. A .270 works well too, a 7mm or 300 mag would be good for moose but a bit much for deer and bear, the recoil is also a factor with the magnums. I shoot a .270, I haven't taken moose but I've never lost any deer, bear, or caribou using 130gr sp bullets. A .30 cal cartridge would give the advantage of heavier 180gr for moose and 150gr for deer and bear.

post a WTB

Post a WTB ad on the exchange. You'll find guys like me who happen to have a .300WM that is spare in the locker. It will take as long as Canada Post takes to get to you ... PM for details.

The problem with cancelling my order, is that I think I am hit with a 10% fee, but I am not 100% sure if that includes the reason, that it is late so I think I will call them up and see. The place I bought from is a very large dealer, and it won't be hard finding something else that they have in stock, it just may be a different rifle or a different cartridge.

I slept on it, and I think that I will just wait it out for another 2 weeks anyways, since Moose don't start until early to mid Oct. If I had to, I could wait it out until the end of the month. I just want to be able to put a scope on it and sight it in before I take it out hunting.

Just ask them to send you a Stevens 200 in 300 Win Mag, and put the change towards better optics.

You will be surprised at how well it shoots.
Ted

This was exactly my first thought when i read the OP's post.

See if they can give you a confirmed date or arrival, if not...get your cash back.

And this is your only other choice if you're not confident using your 336.

Incidentally, I owned the same rifle, Savage SS Warrior, in a 7mmWSM and loved it!
