Late style Rem 760 disassembly

I decided to dust off my grandpa's 760 Gamemaster for this years whitetail season.

How do you disassemble it? I can't get the action tube off. Is it reversed threaded?

I'd put the WD40 to the threaded end of the action tube for a few days.

Luckily this one doesn't rattle

I have soaked in thread breaker at the moment. I guess that's all I can do.

Still not wont budge after 6 days of soaking.

Take the wood off, put the receiver in a padded vise and use the correct wrench to turn the forend tube. Most likely some thread locker on it.

This is the late style with the floated barrel... There's no where to wrench.

get a hardened pin or punch the same size as the hole in the tube and long enough to go thru both sides, a little heat at the end closest to the receiver might help. it's a right hand thread so lefty loosey to get it off.

Menck makes a wrench for this. As has been pointed out, you can use a drill bit or punch the same size as the holes (4) in the forend hanger tube and twist off.
