Here is my latest build.

Blueprinted and trued Remington 700 SS .308
Schillen select stainless steel barrel
Badger bottom metal
Badger base
Smith enterprises rings
LEupold 8.5 - 24 illuminated ret.
AI MAG
(fancy trigger / can't remember right this second).
Custom bolt handle.
Mcmillan A5 stock - bedded and floated.

Did all the work myself. (machine work included).

Makes a ragged hole at 100m.



 
I know how to true an action, how do you 'blueprint' an action? Is it just terminology referring to truing?
 
What does "blue printing" mean?

When a rifle action is manufactured in large quantities, a certain level of tolerances is set. For instance, if the dimensions of an action are within .01 inch, it's considered acceptable. Blueprint is where someone will attempt to make an action meet the EXACT specifications as drawn on the blueprints.

Without welding it's hard to machine something away and make it match a blueprint. I have never seen a blueprint of a 700 action. I believe you have probably trued the action, making the receiver threads, receiver face, locking lug recesses true to the throw of the bolt, the the bolt lugs and bolt face true to the bolt body? I think blueprinting is a misused term when it comes to firearms...
 
I did in fact measure the action and trim to original specs. Because of the truing jigs / reamers I used the internals of the action were in fact cut over sized as I re-cut the barrel threads on my lathe. The external dimensions were a bit wild and not perfectly square and the OAL of the action was a bit long as well. Those were re-made to match the blueprint. As well some of the internal sizes that were not trued via my jigs and reamers were in fact wild and were made to match the drawings.

I'll see if I have a .pdf version of the 700 drawings, I think they are just in one of my tech manuals though.

I don't really care to defend my terminology or build, I know what I do and I know that I make straight iron that makes nice holes.

I am not criticizing the quality of your work... it's just the term 'blueprinting' that always has bothered me... for instance once you cut threads larger or bore the receiver larger and use an oversize bolt, it has left the 'blue print' stage. Keep up the good work, there is a shortage of guys like you.
