Finally got out to re-do my 300 yd. ladder test, this time the wind was less and stayed more or less consistent enough to go ahead. Here's the recipe: Lapua brass, CCI BR2, Amax 155's (.308), Varget. The 3 sighters (foulers) and the starting load is 44.0gr, going up .3 grains each step from there. You can see the first sighter in the lower right, I corrected to bring it center, and carried on from there. Sighters 2 and 3 and shots 1-6 are more or less homogenous (let's blame the wind, shall we?). Bear in mind, after the first sighter, I wasn't correcting for windage, just watching for vertical dispersion.
But look at the jump on #7! That was 45.8gr, and as I suspected, there was a lovely node between 46 and 47 grains:
Next chance, I'll try again starting at 46.0 and working up in .2 gr increments to 47. I figure on loading a few of each and trying out each load on a separate target, see what shakes out.
Btw, the rifle is a Grunig, with a 1:13 twist. Damn, this stuff is fun!
