I swore to myself I'd keep off social media, but with this covid cutting me off from many range friends I thought I'd share.
As much in a sense to share what I am doing, as much as maybe someone somewhere will have some positive feedback/suggestions for me.

The idea came about, when my friend purchased this 520 acre land. From the barn we have now prepped an 800yds clearing to practice.
Lot's of coyotes and deer on the land, I have a newly acquired hunting permit (even though I'm a long term RPAL owner).
The project consist of one rifle to do it all, without excelling in anything... : Shoot deer from 30-300 yds, shoot coyote up to 500-600 yds, ring the gong up to (hoping) 800yds, stay lightweight, sub 3/4 moa accuracy (even hoping for sub 1/2).

For this project, I have got into my ex rifle favourite platform, Savage 10.
For the only reason that the action is lightweight, and accustock is lightweight while having some degree of accuracy.
Down the road, I would want a hunter style custom action with savage small shank prefit barrel threads and R700 trigger/footprint, and manners ultralight CF stock.
That day ain't now as I have a budget to maintain, and is a hunter afterall, not a rifle I'll want to win matches with.

Here are the specs...

Savage 10 FCP-SR 2nd gen (top bolt release, small shank prefit, accutrigger, desert camo accustock, savage magwell,I tuned the extractor)
IBI 6.5x47 Lapua CF small shank prefit. 22'', 1:8, 5R, 0.920'' at muzzle, no muzzle threads (Jerry just dropped this one in the mail so it ain't in yet)
ARC M10 30mm Xtra low rings
NF NXS 3-15x50mm mildot scope with mil turrets, zero stop, SFP, old school but very capable
ATRS 20 moa rail, while being heavy, has very tight tolerances and won't spring on any Savage action. Tried MDT rail to cut weight, would spring like hell, didn't feel like bedding.
I have a PIG (cheap stuff I know) tripod with a HOG saddle, I am thinking this should set itself up on the field properly for nice coyote shots.

Budget with scope, action and barrel is sitting at 3500$ all included (including sold parts), which ain't bad in my opinion considering scope and barrel quality.
My guestimate would end up at 8lbs fully assembled.
Will only truly know once my IBI barrel gets here.
An estimated velocity of 2600fps (let's say I'm using my 26'' barrel ultra accurate recipe and shave off 4'' of barrel in speed) would make me lethal for the given creatures at given ranges in ft-lbs.

That is it for now, just waiting on the barrel to post pics.
Can't wait to see this barrel in, and hope there's enough SS for my barrel vice to clamp on to as I've never screwed in a CF yet.

Just got my goodies and assembled,
IBI got a wicked nice CF wrap design.
Test firing this weekend!

Ended up 1/2lbs heavier than anticipated.
At 8.5lbs total for such a setup, I’m not complaining!

Beauty! I have a similar project, just waiting on the barrel. Mine is a Savage in an MDT LSS with the lightweight butt stock. Barrel will also be an IBI carbon fiber, but in 308 Win. I went with a 2.5-15x Athlon Ares BTR that I already had.. not the lightest but it's a good optic.

A couple things I did to cut a few oz that you could do, if you want it slightly lighter: titanium/CF bolt handle and DNZ 2 piece scope mounts.

Nice, this is my 5th IBI barrel and absolutely love their products!

As far as scope mounting goes, I am finicky with my bedded 1 piece rails and ARC M10 rings, so this ain’t going anywhere.
CF scope handles is a great idea thanks I’ll look into it!

I think the handle you'll want is made by Lumley. When I was shopping all of the right handed ones were titanium handle and carbon fiber knob, which is the one you want. If you see one that is carbon fiber knob and handle as one piece, pass on it. They're the old design that is a fraction of an oz lighter, but mine barely lasted a season of regular use.

Nice rifle! I did something similar about 2 years ago, but in a 7-08AI. R700 action, 22" Carbon Six barrel, carbon fiber McMillan stock and HS precision DBM. Came in right at 8 lbs with a 4.5-14x40 30mm tube Leupold on top. Just took my second white tail with it a few days ago. Love that rifle.

Marty, the rifle looks great and I am sure it will shoot as well.

Thanks to all for their CF barrel purchases. Very happy to hear they are shooting well and doing what we had planned.

Thanks for the great dealer pricing Jerry!
Look forward sending out my range report.

Given the poor stock design (it’s light at least) and trigger weight (set around 3.5lbs as it’s a bush gun), if I punch steady repeatable 5/8-3/4 moa 5 shot groups I’ll be very happy.
1/2 moa is wishful thinking but we never know!

6.5x47 is awesome deer round. I've yet to have to shoot a deer twice. 130HVLD and 143ELDX both great for me on Alberta White Tails.

Super accurate shooting steel too. Great little build!

You gonna stick to Varget?

Nope
We haven’t chatted in a while.
Lately I’ve burned 2lbs (out of 26lbs recently acquired) of H4350, with even better results than Varget.
With 37.4gn I get 2685fps with 139 scenars out of my 26’’ barrel, ultra soft as I can get in high 38s before pressure appears, and the accuracy norm being 1/3 moa 5 shot groups at 200M (with a few at sub 1/4, questioning myself now as I may have the perfect load and the 1/3-1/2 moa groups are maybe just me effing up).

Range report and comparing the 6.5x47s...

This is my after action range report.

After first shot I confirmed headspace was the same as my gauge used to headspace barrel (1.461’’).
I could also confirm that the neck is at 0.291’’ like my other 6.5x47, requiring neck turning.
So both IBI barrels are set at the same headspace, have the same chamber neck dia, and have lands at the same spot, obviously the same reamer brand was used for both.

I will make it’s own load dev eventually, but using my proven recipe, it was shooting sub 3/4 moa right off the bat without any testing done, a 3.5/4lbs trigger, and off an Harris bipod.
Going from a 26’’ to 22’’ resulted into a whopping 180fps velocity drop on my Labradar!

At first I was slightly disappointed by the heavier weight than expected, but after have shot a 1.5 moa group at 100M using the service rifle kneeling position, and without actually muscling it, I will now stop trying to reduce weight. Don’t know if it’s a viable hunting position but wouldn’t see why not.

My only deception is having a Savage action with poor extraction.
Tried tuning it to my best, even then it’s my worst extracting Savage action since owning many of them.
Got to find a way around this...

Oh and BTW for a light/non braked rifle recoil is very soft, way softer than light .308s I’ve tried in the past.
I’m really getting hooked to the 6.5x47L caliber, absolutely love it.
If Barneys Petawawa matches don’t start up again by early 2021, I’ll contact Jerry to send my another IBI 6.5x47L my way and I’ll unscrew my .308 tube off my Origin/MDT ACC setup!
