LAW hunting Lenght of barrel/total and rifle/shotgun

Hi,
Can someone please help in answering my questions ?

I am looking to buy a short shotgun to hunt with. I need something very compact.

what the minimum TOTAL lenght of a gun to be legal for hunting ?
what is the minimum barrell lenght (excluding butt) ?
do you include the butt pad thinkness in the total lenght ?

I am talking about a factory model gun only (not cut off barrell).

I was looking a 12 g shotgun backpacker with a 12.5inch barrell... not sure of the total lenght (+-25)...
then at .410 backpacker 12 inch barrell and 26 total lenght.
