I pmd this question but no responce, i have finished my pal but have to send off my picture etc and wait for my card. Is it possible to put items on layaway until such a time as i recieve my card or is this taboo?

I'd wager you can't. Same reason Bass Pro won't let you handle a firearm without a PAL, You break it, you bought it. No pal, means you can't buy it.

You could just put your money in the bank and save it. If you're looking for a specific item that might not be around by the time your pal comes in, why not inquire if they'll hold it for you until your pal comes in?

Or better yet, have someone else buy it with your money, and hold onto it for you until your license comes in.

I paid for my R1 in full while waiting for my RPAL to come in the mail. It was a site sponser that I bought from. I don't know if one of the big retailers would do it, but I am sure most of the sponsers at the top of the page would.

buddy of mine bought a rifle through a friend before he had his PAL, of course that friend held onto the rifle for him and took him shooting until his PAL arrived. I suppose that kind of arrangement works since technically you don't have ownership of it nor do you posses it.

He's waiting for his Possession and Aquistion license. You can pay for all the firearms you like. Just can't get them (aquire and possess) till you get your card. Up to the store if they accept layaway.

When I started ten years ago, my 'sponsor' went shopping with me....
I would pick out what I wanted, with a lot of guidance from him, and I would pay for it, but he would keep it for me...both restricted and non-restricted.
We would meet up at the club, and he would bring 'my' firearms. I would shoot them, and he would them take them home...
When my PAL and club ATT came through, he simply transferred them all to me and I took them home.
Easy peasy...no waiting...
Of course, not everyone knows of someone whom they either trust enough, or is willing to do it.

I put my money down with Kodiak (Post? My memory is going, going, gone) an ex-dealer) for my first gun, a Heritage Rough Rider 6-gun
.22 and 22Mag combo, before I even took the CFCS & CFRCS.
Service was excellent. They did NOT charge my card until I got my RPAL (a few months).
That is what I call service.

Are they still in business?

You just order online normally and put it in your comments that you want to do lay away. 20% down, rest over a couple months.

If you are waiting on a PAL we can keep it here until you get it.

Lay away time for others depends on what it is. If it is a $350 Norinco we usually limit it to 2 months. An ACR, we can do 3. We can make arrangements for other time frames as well.

A couple months? As in 2...or 3 - 4 ish?? That ACR ain't cheap.

Equal payment plan?

Do you have a leasing program?

I bought my friend a handgun when he sent in for his Pal and Rpal. I bought it then transfered it when he got it was also a birthday presant

You looking for a new friend? My birthday is at the end of November? Haha

To the OP just call whatever store you are thinking of buying from. Most gun stores I've ever been to are more than happy to let you pay for a firearm and they'll hold on to it until you get your license. Some may charge a small storage fee after x amount of time (depending on the dealer). As for layaway, doesn't hurt to ask. I'm sure that, again, most stores would be more than happy to let you make a few payments for the firearm over a month or two. It really is good business practice in my mind, as great customer service is more likely to net you repeat customers.

EDIT- make sure to ask for specifics on the payment plan. I've heard of some stores that if you can't pay it off in a certain amount of time/miss payments that you lose say 20% (for example) of the money you've paid as a "restocking fee"

Me and my buddy both bought guns at accuracy plus before we got our pal.. we got a grate deal and paid for them, they kept them in the back for us until got our paperwork through, they were more than happy to help us in anyway they legally could. Till this day I have bought almost all my firearms exclusively from them.

Most other gun shops in the area wouldn't even talk to us because we did not have a pal.. It was shocking really.
