Anyone have any experience with these calibers? I realize that they are hard on barrels due to the extreme velocity. They make some nice looking rifles with some very nice price tags. Would it be worth it to build a custom rifle based on one of their calibers? Whether it be one of their short mags or long? How do the short mags compare to the WSM's and the long to say the 300Winmag and the .300 WBY?

Any reading I have done on them tells me that they are the fastest in all of their different calibre's. That being said, bore life would be short but if you want the big Daddy go for it. The "cool" factor would be very high with one of these. One swipe of the bank card and one can be yours.

They recoil like hell, ammunition as well as brass is special order only and outrageously expensive. Very accurate though with the ammo they provide. I don't own one but a cousin of mine has one, when I asked How Much, the reply was " if you have to ask, you can't afford it" bearhunter

A friend had one built on a Rem 700 action. He has it shooting tight groups and is happy with it. He has the 7mm firebird short mag but he has trouble ejecting the empty due to its dia, hits scope. The first barrel he ordered from the U.S. failed to group under 5" at 100yds. The 2nd barrel was from an Ontario source. He has spent a lot of money and cannot sell it for half of what it cost to build. As for barrel life he has not shot enough to help you there. He wants to go back to a regular Rem 7mm.

I had one in 7.21(7mm).The rifle shot very well but brass was very expensive($4.00 EACH) and it was very soft, only getting 3 loadings and the primer pocket was opening up.Recoil without a break was stout but not unmanagable.I was getting 3675 fps with a 140grn. AS far as being fastest in there class, this is no longer true. The family of allen mags blow these things out of the water. The 7mm Allen is based on a blown out .338 Lapua.Brass strength is not questioned herenor is the cost of cases. The .300 Allen is downright scary!!!!

Just go with the Rem Ultra Mags for quality performance only about 100fps slower than a Lazz round. The cost of brass and loaded ammo will definately not kill you.

Factory rifles are available and my 300RUM and 375RUM are extremely accurate resulting in 1 1/2" to 2" groups @ 200 yards.

300RUM 150gr SST 3620fps
300RUM 180gr Scirroco 3380fps
300RUM 200gr A-Frame 3250fps

375RUM 260gr Accubond 3020fps
375RUM 300gr Partition 2800fps but I reduced it to 2750fps for reduced recoil.

I love my 300 rem ultra mag, its a Remington Sendero SF. Recoil is just fine as the rifle/scope probably weigh 9.5 lbs. I am considering actually buying a lighter one because I like it so much. However I have so many other rifles that I am working on right now it will be a while before that happens. Accuracy is wonderful as is the flat trajectory.

It may not be Exotic or the biggest and the baddest but for your average slob its the biggest and baddest he'll ever see. I met an couple of old guys on the mountain a couple years ago and he was bragging that he probably had the biggest rifle in the area a 300 Weatherby. The poor guys jaw dropped when I threw him one of mine. His partner just started laughing " guess he's got ya beat" he said to his buddy.
