LC Smith extractor problem

Looking for some help. I have an LC smith 20 gauge from around 1928 that is new to me. The extractors operate as any other LC smith ( move in and out without binding out hanging up). The problem occurs when I load shells. Shells placed in either barrel just fall past the extractors and into the chamber. The action will not close after as the back of the extractor runs into the base of the shell. When I do manage to load the gun making sure to keep the barrels parallel the shells extract as they should, unless I bump them while removing the shell causing them to fall past the extractor. With the barrels removed and the extractor pushed flush with the barrel face the line up perfectly which tells me they are the correct extractor for the barrels.

I have never run into an issue like this before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not very knowledgeable on Elsies, but it almost sounds as if someone installed a set of 16 gauge extractors in your gun. That or they're very, very, very worn.

Have you tried another brand of shells?
I have one 12 gauge gun that Kent shells will occasionally slip past the ejectors but it doesn't happen often or with other brands of shells.

You may have a 16 ga, mistakenly sold as a 20.
Had that happen on an elsie I bid on.
Refused it when the same thing happened on loading a dummy.

As I was typing my question I had the thought it could be a 16. I’m going to check right now.

On My way to Blenheim it occurred to me to check to see if it was a 16Ga. I was going to call you. I'll help you find a loader and you will be in business.
