Does the LCW 7.62x39 have any steel in the bullet? It says it has a lead core, but is it steel jacketed?

Thanks.

Just got my box of it today. From the looks of it, no. Regular copper full metal jacket and wasn't attracted to a magnet.

Says FMJ bi metal jacket right on the website. I believe that means it has a layer of steel between the lead and copper

I just had to figure this out so I bought 5 magnets from the dollar store and they're all attracting the bullet. Somehow the first one I used is "defective." I didn't even know it was possible for a magnet to cease to function. I apologize to whoever I mislead with my original post.

Try making something that you can catch the bullet in. I used a wooden box and filled it with 12"x12" rubber tile, 2x4 chuncks, and newspapers. One of the bullets jackets ripped off and I was able to save the steel core in the middle.

LCW 7.62 bullet attracted by magnet

I just got my cases of LCW 7.62x39 FMJ (Lot N-02D Jan 2014) and Norinco 5.56 (Dec 1995). The LCW came in boxes marked Dominion and did not have the non-corrosive markings even though they are. The 7.62 bullet was attracted by the rare earth magnet as per the picture.

My experience is that if the range bans surplus 7.62 for the metal core, anything that attracts a magnet is not allowed. They dont seem to care if its bi-metal jacketed with lead core. YMMV

Thanks for the info everyone.
