Le Baron Carrying Swiss K31s

No tradex has K31`s its on their home page. They have a new shipment just in. Give them a call. K31 is hard to beat if you like accurate rifles.

Tradex's last shipment were beaters. Good shooters but no lookers. From Polaris's account, the new LeBarron shipment was more or less the same. No thanks.

I figure if I have to finally set up my brand new reloading kit, I may as well wait for a new shipment of hopefully higher grad guns.

I have a 1914-built K11, a 1954-built K31 and a .308Win 300m target rifle built on a 1945 K31 action with a Schultz & Larsen barrel. I reload using Lee dies as near to GP11 dimensions as I can manage using the available bullets here. Sad to say, the best bullets are now at a price that makes them almost unshootable, and more suited to mounting on individual plinths and worshipping.

I'll carry on shooting them as long as I can afford to do so - there really is nothing like a Swiss long-arm in good condition.

The difference between Lee and Redding is that the Lee sizes the shoulder quite a bit, and hence reloads can be used in more than just the K31. Only real downside to using Lee 7.5X55 dies with a K31 is that brass life could be less due to the shoulder being worked more than necessary. However, with any straight-pull, you need to be sure that the brass chambers easily, as the bolt has no camming action like a bolt action does.

I've been neck sizing for mine for some time now with the Lee collet type dies....no issues, no more resistence closing the bolt on these then GP11. Up to 6 firings on some and they haven't needed trimming even yet. I did full length size 50 brass recently that were used in an old K31 I had sold a while back and they were pretty difficult to size. The Lee FL dies really work the brass a lot for sure.

Lol this is all as confusing as mud. I'll just use whatever die set I happen to actually FIND! Natchez is now showing out of stock, and the nice foreign orders rep hasn't yet gotten back to me with my order confirmation, so I guess I'm hooped there too.

And these things are too fugly to even make it as wall hangers! ;)

Higginson Powders carry lots of Lee stuff, where I got my 7.5 dies.

All the guns that arrived in Canada recently were from the Tradex shipment. Some guns are better than others but we saw no pristine rifles and there are unlikely to be any large shipments of them I the future. The Swiss government is selling off the last of their stockpiles and they are all pretty much the same stuff. Any excellent rifles need to be found individually in Swiss gun stores and auctions.

Ta. I use Lee dies pretty much as a last resort. I just don't like the o-ring locking system that they use. Though it has just come to my mind now that I could probably let some blue locktite work down into the threads once I get them set up, so they don't come out of adjustment when I swap them in and out of the press.

You can always throw RCBS etc lock rings on the dies for that matter....

I have one of these that has been re-barreled to 30 30 Win. Gonna see if it is safe to shoot soon. I was talking to a Swiss member of our gun club and he was saying that the standard Swiss round will be scarce soon as they are stopping the manufacture of it.
