:(
- Back in February I went to Lebaron to buy small primers for rifle rounds, they cost me $22.00 (plus)/thousand.
- 2-weeks ago (March) I bought a few thousand CCI small pistol primer for $22.00 (plus)/per thousand.

Last Saturday I dropped by Le Baron to buy a pair of shooting glass and since when I asked the nice lady at the counter if they have WSP in stock, she told me that "they have Winchester Standard Small Pistol primer" I ordered for 5000-pcs (5-box). While she was keying in my purchase, I saw the price tag on the box of the WSP. I was shocked when I saw how much was the price tag on the box of WSP.....$28.00/box of a thousand:eek: WTF!!!!! I asked the lady if it was a mistake... she said "No". The price jumped from $22.00 to $28.00 in a matter of 2-weeks and she said, it will even go higher soon.  a thousand WSP, after taxes will cost you a whopping $31.92!!! :puke:

I saw a 50 cartridge box of Winchester 40 S&W for $22.00 at Williams arms, WTF the same box was like $13.00 a few weeks ago.

Time to start reloading.

good thing I have 10K of them at home.. ;) ;) ;)

(yup, blame this bastard for making them run out in a single day.. not my fault they don't order enough when you tell them too.)

Let's look at this particular box of ammo. Let's use 180gr bullets to get the best metal value for discussion.

I just brought 59lbs of brass casings to the recyler. $1.40/lb

Let's say the price of brass is worth twice what the scrap dealers pay, or $2.40, although new matals are not double what scrap is worth.

So 50 x 70gr (high average) = 3500 or 1/2 a lb.

At $2.80 a lb, there would be $1.40 worth of brass in a box of 40S&W.

Let's do two examples of bullets, because I haven't a clue what the ratio is for jacket material vs. lead core.

For example 1, let's use pure lead. The small percentage of other metals in the lead bullets is irrelevent for this discussion.

So, 180 x 50 = 9000gr or 1.3lbs.

Lead is at about 88¢ a lb today. So for this example the lead is worth $1.14/lb.

In example 2, let's use pure copper bullets. Copper is the most expensive metal in a jacketed bullet and will give us an extreme example to work with.

Copper is about $3.25 a lb(man it's climbing!) today.

So in this example out 1.3lbs of bullets would be worth $4.23 for metal content.

Grand total for lead bullets, $2.54 worth of metals.

Grand total for pure copper extreme bullets, $5.63 worth of metals.

Wait, we are not done yet.

Let's say the price of metals tripled in the last year.

Our lead ammo metal content went up $1.68

Our copper extreme ammo metal content went up $3.72

I would put the actual cost of jacketed 40S&W metal content as having increased a lot closer to about $2.25

So why did whitbyman's ammo jump $9.00 a box?

My guess is because he can afford it. What do you say?;)

Remember basically the computers are made in China like so many of the dog food products. Remember if Walmart had not gone to imporing/selling Chinese products they would have been out of business some yrs ago. In a few yrs we might be buying our vegitables, fruit, fowl, pork, to beef from China.

After all even Japan is worried about competitors when it comes to cars, but also motorcycles to all forms of small motors.
