G'day,

So, I have one Lee Enfield charger that works like a hot knife through butter, and about fifty that drive me closer to insanity, and cause broken nails / cuts / misfeeds with every attempted use.

Short of repeated use (which is obviously a time and labour intensive method), does anyone have a surefire recommendation on how to "break in" chargers for easier, but still reliable use?

And yes, I have tried a multiplicity of rim overlapping techniques, but suspect that sticking with the traditional three back, two forward (_-_-_) is the best idea, so as to not to end up with an "up" and "down" side of the charger.

Cheers,

Neal

I'de like to help you out here but soulds like you have done everything I would have suggested. keep the 2 up 3 down, perhaps put a little chunk of wood in your pocket to use to push the rounds with to save your fingers.

I had one just like that, actually I think it was worse then what you described. I could not strip the rounds out of it no matter how hard I tried. Its sitting on my reloading bench after a "what the hell, why not" tumble in my brass tumbler... Which did not work by the way. I think it has something to do with the metal, Some might have flaws which make then rough and bit into the brass. Maybe take some fine emery cloth and polish the inside then best you can?

... Using clean media, the Tumbler works fairly well to clean the little buggers. The fingers can be bent slightly to grip the rounds less tightly, and the suggestion to use fine Emory paper to smooth things up a little, is good one as well. ( And there's always the possibility of a nick on the rim of the round catching if you're a reloader ) ... David K
