LE No.5 feed problem

I am having difficulty chambering the 2nd round that feeds from the left side of the magazine. The tip of the 170 gr factory softpoint is sticking on the ramp and requires a strong, sharp push forward on the bolt to chamber the round. The rounds from the right side of the magazine chamber fast and slick.

Has anyone else experienced this. The problem arose during a test I was doing for the dangerous game rifle match that we are running on the Hunting and Sporting Arms forum.

I was going to lend this rifle out to a friend who will be working in Northern Saskatchewan this summer. I need to resolve this otherwise this rifle will become a wallhanger.

Just a WAG here...but the magazine lips could need adjusting slightly (opening up) particularly on the left side of the mag. Also, I found that soft-point hunting ammo did the same thing in my No5Mk1, while FMJ ammo fed perfectly.

... Try another magazine if you have one; check that the feed ramp is really clean; then try adjusting the magazine lip(s) just a very slight "tweak" should do it ! (Also check the catch that holds the magazine in place has no build up of grease/crud etc. underneath it ) .... It may be that to feed soft points the feed ramp may need a bit of polishing. The other possibility, is simply improper loading of the rounds, causing the rim of the second round to get hung up on the one below it....... David K.

Yep, had same problem, bent the lips up a bit on the mag, and she cycles fine...

Sometimes it's just the mag, the lips get bent, try another and it might work perfectly.
