I bought several bricks of .22 Federal Lightning last year in an auction lot that included other ammunition I also wanted. Rotating my ammunition from oldest to newest, I put away these bricks, which only saw the light of day this weekend.

The bullets, I found, have all discoloured to white-grey with very light corrosion. The corrosion won't rub off, and the bullet surface is normal to the touch. Any opinions on the cause of this? The packaging had no signs of water exposure. The brass is as bright as the day this ammo was made.

I am reasonably sure the cause is not under my roof. Other .22 Federal Lightning cartridges are their normal dark grey colour, and no other ammo in the Dog house is affected. But it seems they interacted with something they didn't like.
