For melting lead is it better to buy a furnace designed for melting the lead, if the furnace is the way to go bottom feed or laddle. of melting lead. What furnace would you recomend. Or is there a better way to melt lead.

It's not really a furnace. Despite the name. It's a melting pot. Lyman makes one that'll handle up to 10 lbs of lead. Make sure the room you use it in has lots of ventilation.

Lee Pro 4/20 because it's so affordable. For less than 1/2 the price of the RCBS or Lyman, you can buy a spare screwdriver and dental pick to keep beside it when it leaks. :p

I actually have two now. So now I don't have to adjust the mold shelf when switching between RCBS and Lee molds (different thicknesses). The thing gets hot and is hard to adjust with oven mits. :)

I've got an RCBS Pro Melt. It's the $500 Caddilac for the home bullet caster. Yes, it's nice....very nice, but you don't need to go to this extreme. Bottom pour pots are nice, but there's something nostalgic about using a conventional pot and ladle.

I had a Lee bottom pour. It leaked....it burnt out on my 3rd casting session. They didn't get the name "Lee-ko-matic" for nothing. A small conventional Lyman pot won't set you back that far and the quality is much better. I've got one that...if I recall....holds either 8 or 10 pounds. I've been using it for a few years now with absolutely zero problems. It was on the shelf with no box for $50.00. I have no idea what they generally retail for.

"For melting lead"= if you mean melting dirty oily wheelweights or roof flashing with tar on it, get a large pot and propane turkey cooker, work outside. If you're casting bullets with a six cavity mold, consider the 20lb. bottom pour. Otherwise the 10lb should do fine.Lee is good for the price, buy new, fix it, then you're good to go.

I have the Lee 10lb pot. It does leak a fair amount but I empty it and clean it once a year. My dad had this for doing fishing stuff since the 80's and now I have it. I know when I was younger we used it a couple of times a year. I use it about once a month for the last 3 years and it still works great. It's pretty beat up but still works and the price was right for me.
