Lead in M1 Carbine

So we bought some brass off Ebay and got some lead 110 grain bullets with it as well.

Is it OK to use Lead in the M1?

Hello,

I would not use lead unless you want a single-shot rifle because sooner or later the gas port will get clogged up. Have you seen the size of the gas port hole? Marstar has copper-plated .30 m1-type bullets so cheap that there's not compelling reason to use lead only.

Thtas what I though. I can access the gas port but its a pain. Just wanted to know if it could be done.

Maybe I will have to find a Ruger black hawk in 30 carbine now.

My old Lyman manual shows three cast bullet weights for the .30 carbine. 120's, 123's and 130's. Both of the former are with gas checks, the latter without. Check your manual.

Cast Leading In M1

I have shot thousands of cast bullets both gas checked and naked base through all of my M1's and have never seen any lead fouling in bore or gas system they eat them up. 14 gr. H 110 with a 100 to 125 gr. cast and have at it.
