Lead in the barrel...

I always used the Lewis Lead Remover. I found that that worked great, better then chemicals, solvents, etc..

Not sure if you can still buy them though.

Brownel's sells them. Removed shards of lead from my revolvers! Wish they made one in 22LR.

Is this normal with lead or were they going to fast?

There are generally three reasons for excessive lead fouling:

1. Over pressure or high charge loads. Higher heat and pressure melts more lead around the base of the bullet as it exits the barrel, causing fouling.

2. High or frequent round count. Shooting lots or fast within a short time period increases the heat retained in the barrel, again causing fouling.

3. The bullet lead is too soft. Hard cast bullets handle higher pressures and heat better. Purer, softer lead melts faster.

I've used a Lewis lead remover, along with a Hoppe's tornado brush - stainless steel looped "bristles". Both worked well.
