I’m curious what prices you folks pay for scrap lead, and ingots in your area. I’m near Winnipeg, scrap yards seem to pay 40-50 cents a pound for clean, no idea for dirty. As far as buying it from them, one place doesn’t sell it to people, another cuts strips off a sheet of pure lead for $1/lb, and another sells Linotype for $1.25. I only called 3 places, so that’s not a scientific survey but a rough idea of prices. I have no idea what ingots go for here, or what people consider reasonable given the price of lead from the yard.

Stop in at a few tire places and offer to buy their wheel weights for $0.25 per lb.
With a bit of work it will make nice hard ingots for less than 50 cents per pound once you are done.
No need to buy lino that way.
Good deal on the lino you had, getting harder to find thus pretty expensive.

I know a guy who owns a repair shop, someone already has a pail there lol! I’m going to have to make some visits to shops in town and the city.
I did the tire shop circuit for a few years. Now have more than I'll ever need. I stopped about 5 years ago. For one thing I didn't need any more and was finding more and more steel and zinc in the buckets. Plus as I got older a 5 gal pail of ww was more than I could put in my van.
You would have a hard time selling lead for more than $1/lb on here. Lino or pure you will get a little more.
I used to keep an eye on what junk yards paid for scrap and always offer people $0.05 more. Never paid more than $0.35/lb.
Things have changed in the last 5 years or so.

Many seek a source for lead, but few want to pay anything more than about $0.50/lb even for wheelweight ingots, and even then they'll only want 50 lbs of less. A great reason to just avoid the fuss and trot your excess lead to the scrap dealer.
I might do it to save up ingots for myself for rifle bullets. My ingots are pure lead, great for my muzzle loaders, but I might try a cartridge that would be suited to hunting with cast bullets.

That’s what I’ve done for most of my lead, paid people a bit more than the scrap yard. After I make a haul I have lined up I’ll be set for pure lead. I enjoy melting it down, cleaning it and pouring those ingots, so I may offer up bullets and ingots but like you say people don’t want to pay much lol. I’ve already noticed people act pretty weird when you want to buy their lead. Must be a pretty odd request lol!
I like my stockpile, I’ll haul away batteries though, not worth dealing with for what lead they contain vs price at the yard.
