Lead prices

$3.79 a pound. Comes in 25 lb blocks. Supposedly pure lead. It is nice and clean looking. Is this a good price for lead in the Vancouver area?

Not really, Check out Metalex Products in Richmond.(604 270 5487) They are a Secondary lead smelter & sell bullet lead to a lot of bullet manufacturers. They sell it in 60 lb ingots. I'm going to guess around $2.00 a lb.

Regards, Henry

Maybe it's just the holidays but I've been trying to get somewhere with them without much luck. Passed to different people who haven't answered the phone or email. Is there someone particular to ask for?

I understand they might have a 1000lb minimum order policy too. Fyi

Do they only sell ingots or do they sell lead wire that's is used by most bullet makers that stage jacketed bullets. It also looks like they have a 1000lb minimum.

I priced out some lead form them in 2020. They wanted $2.50/lb 1000lb minimum. I asked about alloys as I wanted it for bullets. They had no idea what I was talking about.

Plus they would only take Certified Cheques. No CC, cash or otherwise.

I don't think they wanted my business. Went to the local scrap yard and got 500lbs for $1/lb.

That's close to the price. They did have a 1000 lb minimum order policy when I was buying from them.

Gawd damn!? Last I bought, it was $1 a pound!

From what I've picked up but haven't really researched, it's
actually quite difficult to get antimony to mix with lead. More of an industrial process that might need a catalyst or special equipment or something.
Most people find a high antimony alloy like linotype and mix with that.

I too have checked with Metalex and they want 1000 lb. minimum buy. I tried to see if they'd let a person come to the door and pay cash for just one or two 60 lb. ingots but got no answer -- which I take as a "no". 60 lb. is about 3,200 9mm bullets or 2,500 .38 Special bullets or about 1,650 .45 Colt bullets. A couple of those ingots could really set a person up for the year but I sure can't spring for 1000 lb. minimum buy. Still, I'd pay a bit more to "share in" on a buy. It's hard to find enough useable wheelweights in a bucket these days, and I get all mine for free from the shop where I work.
