$46 a bag plus tax now

I'm thinking of getting a lead shot maker like a Littleton. They are about $400 us. The Youtube videos look a little tricky regarding temperatures of lead and coolant. Anyone know if they are in Canada?

Lead at the scrap yard is around 50 cents per pound.

Thanks

When I gots my dripper.....I was asked if I enjoyed to tinker.I do like to tinker, now I know why he asked me.I have a Littleton and I really like it.If you think you are going to plug it in and drip perfect shot....go buy a lottery ticket. You learn in a big hurry patience is very important......and tinkering.....I finally am able to drip for hours till my coolant heats up.I just finished 600 lbs

I do find it relaxing once the moon aligns!!

I have never tried it, however, have a friend who has.
What kept me away from trying it, was the serious effort involved to produce what seemed to be marginal product.
I want shot that is consistent, and meters well through an automated loading system. That kind of result from home dropped shot requires a lot of technique and practice.
If the joy of producing shot pleases you ... Have at it.
I will applaud your effort.

What kind of coolant do you use? I've heard that Hummasons lead is not that consistent either. Sometimes the #8 might really be #8.5 or #7.5 closer to #7.

I cast my own handgun bullets. It's not too hard. The temperatures have to just right there too.

You might want to read up on the SAAMI size standards for lead shot. Among the "target" size pellets, it is plus or minus .5 - therefore a pellet could correctly be in a bag marked 7.5, 8.0 or 8.5 and all would be to standards. For "hunting" sizes, it is a full 1.0 tolerance, therefore #4, #5 or #6 might have exactly the same diameter pellet and be to standard.
